A community shopping centre project in Dubai, UAE.
Arabian Centre, developed and owned by Dubai's LALS Group, is a family-focused community shopping centre which opened on 1st March 2009 with 200 specialty retail and food & beverage units alongside a multiplex cinema and LuLu Hypermarket.
Located in the residential Mirdif region of Dubai, the development project was largely unheralded at a time the retail real estate industry was pre-occupied by larger, high profilerg projects including construction of the world's largest shopping centre, Dubai Mall.
Having established a Dubai office the previous year, Arabian Centre was to be Vindico's first integrated retail delivery appointment in the Middle East.
Our introduction to LALS Group came through our mutual involvement at Dubai Festival City where Vindico had supported the delivery of LAL Group retail brands.
Needing a tenant coordination and design review solution, Vindico was appointed to the project and began building our first Middle East project team, blending a group of Vindico staff from the USA and UK with local recruits.
Vindico provided a retail delivery content, design, manage and onsite solution for Arabian Centre.
All of design and management disciplines were co-located on site, facilitating the deep engagement with client and construction teams necessary to create the LOD's, design & technical criteria against which the largely local, mid-market tenants' designs were reviewed.
Navigating authorities approvals processes in a construction environment that conflicted with the needs of tenant fitout contractors was challenging, yet allowed visibility into the team's focus on getting shops and restaurants open on time.
At its opening, Arabian Centre achieved the highest ratio of trading tenants to units of any project in Dubai.
Despite very trying circumstances, the Vindico team did a magnificent job in resolving issues to ensure 170 tenants opened their doors. We thoroughly enjoyed working with them.
